Xenonauts, a game heavily inspired by XCOM: UFO Defense, is getting a sequel in 2017.
According to the Xenonauts 2 website, developer Goldhawk Interactive cites the release of 2K Games' XCOM 2 as the reason for renewed interest in the Xenonauts series.
The game will be set in an alternate Cold War-era timeline. As a result, advanced alien technology from the first game won't be available in the sequel.
Xenonauts 2 will also be making the jump from 2D sprites to 3D graphics. In addition, players can expect completely redesigned alien enemies.
The first Xenonauts released in August 2014. IGN's review called it the closest thing to XCOM: UFO Defense we had seen in 20 years but its frustrations made it too loyal to its inspiration for its own good.
