Sharknado 4 Gets Release Date, Star Wars-Inspired Title

The fourth installment in Syfy's television movie franchise Sharknado will premiere on July 31 at 8pm ET/PT.

In addition to announcing the release date, Syfy and The Asylum also revealed the film's official title -- Sharknado: The 4th Awakens -- which clearly draws inspiration (and pokes a bit of fun) at Disney's latest entry in the Star Wars saga.

Sharknado: The 4th Awakens is set five years after Sharknado 3, during which time, "Fin (Ian Ziering), his family and the cosmos have been blissfully sharknado-free." Naturally, things take a horrifying turn for the worst, when "sharks – and 'nados! – are being whipped up in places (and ways) least expected."

In March, Syfy announced Tara Reid will return as April Wexler, joining Ziering's Fin, as well as David Hasselhoff's Gil Shepard and Ryan Newman's Claudia Shepard. The 4th Awakens also features several newcomers, including Imani Hakim, Cody Linley, Gary Busey, Tommy Davidson, Masiela Lusha and Cheryl Tiegs.
